Communication Skills and English Language Training: Spoken English, Soft Skills, Professional Communication, and Language Learning Technologies

Abstract

Good communication skills are very important in today's world. Whether a student wants to get a job, study further,or work in any professional field, they need to speak and write English clearly and confidently. This research paper studies how students can improve their communication skills through better English language training. It examines four main areas: speaking English fluently, developing soft skills, learning professional communication, and using moderntechnology for learning. The paper also discusses how the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) supports communication skills in colleges. Based on a review of existing literature and theoretical frameworks, the paper presents practical recommendations for teachers, students, and colleges to improve English communication training in Indianhigher education. Findings indicate that integrated, skill-based instruction combining spoken practice, soft skillsdevelopment, and digital tools produces more effective communicators. The paper concludes that NEP 2020 providesstrong policy support for this shift, and that colleges must now commit to implementing it in classrooms.
